Kekova Üçağız History

Simena Kaleköy, built on the ancient city of Simena, is in the form of a peninsula and its transportation is provided by boats. The history of the city, which is a member of the Lycian Union, dates back to BC. It goes back to the 4th century. Like Theimiussa, there are ruins both on land and underwater in Simena. An extraordinarily beautiful historical and natural landscape, a sparkling blue sea offers happy hours to those who travel. In the citadel formed by the medieval walls, which are quite intact, there are houses and a temple ruins with very few block stones today, which 19th century travelers reported. The most interesting ruin in Simena is the theater, whose seats are carved into the natural rock. It is the smallest of the theaters in Lycia. The ruins of the bath, Lycian type rock tombs and sarcophagi, Roman period wall remains are among the ruins that can be seen on the shore. Kekova Island (Sunken City) The island that gave its name to the region is located in front of Kaleköy. Boats can dock at Tersane Bay on the island. There is the apse of a Byzantine church here. The history of Kekova Island is not known precisely and it is full of historical remains. Traces of the sunken city and the stairs can be seen while passing through the Sunken City by boats. Kekova Island, declared a national park, has been taken under protection and diving is prohibited from here.
